I went this morning for my normal 6 mile run at 5:40. The air was crisp and the sky was clear and dark. I marveled at the stars that pushed down on me as I headed out. One mile into the run a flash in the sky caught my eye, as I looked up I watched a shooting star streak across the sky! Whenever this happens it brings me to laughter and finally tears as I soak in the show God puts on seemingly just for me.
It reminded me of a time three years ago. (unbelievable that it has been that long ago) I was doing a marriage event in a small rural town in Orange, NSW Australia. I got up very early to go for a run before the busyness of the day started. I imagined David sitting on a ridge much like the one that created the valley I was running through, watching his sheep.
I easily could understand the intimacy he felt with God as he laid on his back and saw the vast universe above him. I that moment, a star shot across the sky right in front of me! I remember feeling like God flung that star just to show me a glimpse of his power. Even this morning, I realized it is impossible for me to comprehend the speed with which that star must have been moving and I am unable to fathom the vastness of the universe that could hold it!
As we lead where God has us, we need to remember that He can show up anywhere, therefore we must be watching or we will miss it. And when he does show up, it will be spectacular!
I came in this morning and read Psalm 102. When I got to verse 25, I just smiled.
"You laid earth's foundations a long time ago, and handcrafted the very heavens"
